DT and English
This week we have begun building our cam mechanism toys with a Viking theme and learning our text map in English.
English: Instructions story map and text
Here is the story map and text we are currently working on in Hares. The children began to learn a section that they felt might be the trickiest to write, so that when they come to write their own instructions, they have a good model to help them. They might like to do this practise instead of a grid activity this week.
Survival Day in Hares
We had a fantastic day of learning survival and team building skills with Hill End Outdoor Learning Centre. The children really rose to all the challenges, learned lots of new skills and developed their collaborative approach to tasks. They should be very proud of all that they achieved, as we certainly are.
GIANT BUBBLES
We had a great time making giant bubbles and experimenting with how to form them; it is harder than it looks!
If you'd like to have a go at home you need:
Two sticks (canes are good)
Two pieces of string, one double length of other (try 80 cm and 160cm). Attach to both ends of sticks to form a triangle and weigh down the middle of long string with a bead or blu-tac.
250 ml of vegetable glycerin
250 ml Fairy liquid
500 ml water
Best left over night-then empty into low dish or tray
Dip string in mixture, gently remove, opening sticks as you go to create MASSIVE bubbles! Lots of patience needed! Have fun.
Term 5-6
Welcome back to the summer term! Attached are all the documents you will need for the term ahead. There are three spelling sheets here: one is the weekly rules that we will be learning in class and practise weekly through dictations, as well as a word list for both year 4 and year 5 that are common words the children should be learning. Please try and look at these at home too.
Remote Learning TERM 4
If you are unable to come into school (for example, if your household needs to isolate) please base your home learning on the grid below.
All of the resources that you will need are here on the class page. You can complete the tasks in any order and there is still the expectation for you to learn your spellings, read daily and practice your multiplication facts. Try and complete your work to the best of your ability. Don't forget, should you need to contact us, you can do so in the usual way by emailing the class email. We will still be checking it daily.
Miss Gardner and Miss Sharman
Please see below for past home learning grids / activities / resources.

Hooray, the last remote learning day!
We are nearly there Hares. It would be fab to see you all in our final Zoom lesson-we will be creating daemons just like in Northern Lights as our last day focussing on Philip Pullman. We look forward to seeing you all at 11.45.
Don't forget to check out our last masked reader of the week too. Did you spot that yesterday's was our very own Mrs Seymour?
Miss Sharman has also recorded the second chapter of The Scarecrow and his Servant for you to enjoy.

Attached is your learning for the day and the resources that you may find helpful. In tomorrow's live lesson we will be celebrating World Boook Day; please start to think about an interesting book character that you could describe to the rest of the class for this lesson-reasonably well-known ones would be good as the resto of the class are going to try and guess/draw your characters!
You will be making Top Trumps today in English and continuing with your area work in maths.
Keep up the amazing work and see you at 11:45 tomorrow,
Miss Gardner and Miss Sharman

Good morning Hares,
Welcome to week 5, it's wellbeing week!
From 1-7 February 2021 schools, youth groups, organisations and individuals across the UK will take part in Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is Express Yourself.
Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.
It’s important to remember that being able to express yourself is not about being the best at something or putting on a performance for others. It is about finding a way to show who you are, and how you see the world, that can help you feel good about yourself.
For Children's Mental Health Week 2021 we will be encouraging children (and adults) to explore the different ways we can express ourselves, and the creative ways that we can share our feelings, our thoughts and our ideas.
For more information, visit https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/
Remember, these are not normal times so this isn't 'normal' teaching. Please be kind to yourselves (and each other). Just do what you can with the learning and tasks that are being set. We do not expect you to complete every single task every single day, although some of you may want to, and that is also fine. If you are struggling with any tasks or any of the work that has been set then please email the class email and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
See you all at 11:45am

Maths Follow up
Hi all! There were a few queries about number of questions for each task, versus number of answers given-I've had a look through and they seem to match up. Just make sure when today's answers are posted later that you are using the correct answers to mark the correct questions (Mild, Warm or Hot).

Good morning Hares,
It was great to see so many of you on Zoom yesterday. We really enjoyed seeing all of your smiley faces again after the Christmas break.
The answers from yesterday's maths have been uploaded so make sure you have a quick look to see how you have done.

Remote learning Tuesday 5th January 2021
Good morning Hares,
We hope that you are all excited and ready for our first day of remote learning. Both Miss Sharman and myself are really looking forward to seeing you on zoom at 11:45am.
Below you will find a document that sets out your tasks for the day. Each day you will need come and visit our class page to see what activities and tasks we have set for you. We will try as hard as we can to not attach too many documents for you.
Today you will need to make sure that you can see a copy of the attached image of a submerged city for your reading task.
If you get stuck on ideas for your English task then there is an example that we have put up for you to have a look at.
Remember, as well as you set daily tasks you should still be reading, practicing your spellings and times tables and checking for Mathletics tasks.
See you all at 11:45 - don't forget your pencils and paper!
Miss Gardner and Miss Sharman
Welcome back to term 3!
Whilst it isn't quite the start we were expecting, there is still lots of new and exciting learning to come. We have uploaded the new topic web for the term which introduces our new topic - Oxford. As well as this there is a new home learning grid with tasks related to our topic and spelling grids.
You may notice that there are a few different spelling grids for this term - during our remote leaning we will be looking at the main Hares spelling grid and teaching you the spelling rules that are on there but, as part of your remote learning tasks we would like you to look at your year group spelling lists and have a go at learning the words that are on there as well. These are some of the words that you should be able to spell by the end of the year.
Keep practicing you spellings using the strategies that we have looked at.
See you all soon,
Miss Gardner and Miss Sharman
If your child is isolating at any point, please refer to the class' current home learning grids and spelling lists below for home learning tasks. In addition, your child should log in to Mathletics and complete the tasks they have set on there. They should also be reading and discussing what they have read with an adult on a daily basis.
Welcome to the new year, Hares!
We hope that you have had a great first week back, we have really enjoyed working with you.
Below are copies of the work that have been sent home in your homework book.
You have:
- a spelling sheet - you will work on these words in school, but also practise them at home.
- a homework grid - choose a task to complete each week.
- a reading record - complete it each time you finish a book and see how many of the challenges you can complete this year.
- your Mathletics logins have been sent home and you should log on each week to see what work has been set. Feel free to play maths games once you've finished your assigned task.
If for some reason you are unable to come to school, please use these as a basis for your work. Be original and work to the best of your ability. For example, you could:
- write out your spellings in super sentences in your best handwriting.
- review a book from your reading challenge.
- choose a task from the homework grid and take the time to plan, produce, edit and publish to a very high quality.
Keep up the good work!
Miss Gardner and Miss Sharman
Hello Hares!
Many thanks for joining us either in the classroom or over zoom this week!
As promised, here is the suggested home learning for you!
Please feel free to work through the grid at your own pace. We have attached some support resources as well as some useful websites.
We wish you a relaxing and fun summer holiday. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all in September.
