First School Reading Cafe

We were delighted to hold Watlington Primary's first Reading Cafe! The aim of this event was to promote a love of shared reading and allow parents to see how our fantastic school libraries work in supporting children in accessing a range of books. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying some precious time enjoying books together and exploring our libraries, as well as sitting down with a cuppa! Big thank you to the PTA, volunteer librarians and staff for your support. Look out for the next one in the Autumn term.

The Platinum Jubilee

Wow! What a wonderful day of celebrations to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The children have taken part in lots of activities linked to the Jubilee, the Queen's reign and much celebrating too. This included a 'Song for each Decade' performance by each class and a celebration lunch with the whole school.  Also, a huge thank you to Margaret Noon from the Parish Council, who delivered seed packets to every child in the school.

Art Week 2022

Just before Easter, we held our first Art Week in school. Each year group chose a different artist/architect to focus on. The children researched this person, replicated some of their art work and then had a go at creating their own pieces in the style of the artist. We were also very lucky to have some wonderful Icknield students come over and deliver Djembe workshops to us all. The children really enjoyed themselves and all went home having learnt a new skill!

World Book Day 2022

We had a fantastic day on World Book Day this year! We started the day with an assembly all about the importance of reading for pleasure. We also shared some of our character costumes and described how the characters went through a change in each book. Each class enjoyed creating pop-up cards about a character that went through a change in a story. We also took time to enjoy reading and sharing our favourite books, as well as experimenting with trying out new genres.
