Nursery

Term Two

Please look out for a letter regarding a planned theatre visit, from a company who come into schools. This is happening on Wednesday 3rd December.

Week 5

A busy week in Robins this week!

We’ve been practising for our Nativity next week, and the children have been amazing at learning their new songs. We also set up an Elf Workshop where the children practised their cutting skills as they snipped wrapping paper and wrapped presents to go under our beautifully decorated tree—which they decorated themselves!

On Wednesday, we had a theatre company visit us. We watched The Hare and the Tortoise, which was very funny. The children learnt that you can achieve anything you put your mind to—slow and steady wins the race!

Then on Thursday, we had a very special fly-past. A Chinook helicopter flew over the school with a very special visitor inside… yes, Father Christmas! The children were incredibly excited and loved waving to him.

The children are enjoying the Christmas Sack, where they get to choose a book that’s been wrapped up as a Christmas surprise. They then get to unwrap it, and we read the story together. It’s so much fun opening presents!

Week 4

This week, the Robins explored painting in a new and exciting way. They used cotton buds to make marks on pans, then placed paper on top to print their patterns. The children thought it was a really fun way to paint!

Outdoors, we had a great time investigating the ice. The children were fascinated to see how it cracked and how we could break it into smaller pieces. Afterwards, we came inside to warm up.

We also enjoyed playing with shapes and seeing what pictures we could create. Some of the children made flowers, while others created rockets!

To finish our week, we blasted off in our space rocket one last time! The children counted backwards from 5 to 1 before shouting “Blast off!” and zooming to the moon for their snack.

Week 3

It’s been a busy and exciting week in our Cosmic Cafe! The children loved serving up yummy rocket rice, Star sandwiches; and Milkyway Milkshakes! There was lots of imaginative play in our space rocket as we counted down from 5 to 1 and shouted "Blast off"

We also explored space books to discover what the moon looks like, and we talked about all the different ways we might catch a star—just like the little boy in our story How to Catch a Star.

Week 2

This week we have celebrated World Nursery Week. We had great fun and learnt a new nursery rhyme and actions each day and were joined by Hedgehogs and Bats Classes at the end of each day for a lovely sing-along. Please see gallery for photos.

These are the songs we learnt:

  • Sing a Song of Sixpence

  • Humpty Dumpty

  • When I Was One

  • I Hear Thunder

  • Two Little Dickie Birds

Week 1

Welcome back, Robins!

We hope you all had a relaxing half-term break.

This is going to be an exciting term! First, we have a new Talk 4 Writing story — How to Catch a Star. We’ll be learning all about space and thinking of creative ways that we could catch a star.

During the last two weeks of term, we’ll be focusing on... yes, Christmas. We’ll start learning songs for our Nativity — more information will follow nearer the time.

As it has been Bonfire Night this week, we’ve been developing our gross motor skills and exploring fireworks! The children have enjoyed chalking fireworks on the large chalkboard, experimenting with flicking and splatting paint, mixing colours, and thinking of exciting words to describe them. We hope you all have a fun and safe Firework Evening!

Zoom Early Years meeting ended rather abruptly. Sorry about that! The joys of Zoom! We do hope it was helpful.

Please see the presentation below, for links and further information.

Week 8

This week, the Robins have been celebrating Diwali — the Festival of Light! 🌟
We watched a short clip all about Diwali celebrations and learned why it’s such a special time for so many people. The children also had a go at making their own Diya lamps and created some beautiful Rangoli patterns outside using chalk.

On Thursday, we went on a trip to the local allotments. We were amazed to see an enormous pumpkin— we couldn’t believe how big it was! The children explored the rest of the allotments, looking at all the different vegetables growing there. With permission from Mrs Robinson-Ward, we even pulled up a carrot and a beetroot from her plot! We enjoyed smelling the beautiful flowers and tried to count the chickens… but they kept running around, so it was a little tricky! 🐓

We hope you all have a relaxing Half Term!

Week 7

This week, we continued using our story logs to help recall TheThree Little Pigs in the correct order. In Loose Parts play, the children showed fantastic imagination and created some great structures. —transforming the Pig house into a lively cafe was fun, where they busily took orders and prepared lots of “delicious” food.

Over the past couple of weeks, the Robins have also been busy creating pig and wolf masks, which they then used to bring the story to life through role play in The Three Little Pigs house.

Week 6

We talked about the story of The Three Little Pigs and which house they would like to build. The Stick house was a popular vote, so we went to the woods to collect lots of sticks. Together we worked as a team to create our house. Please see gallery.

Week 5

This week, Robins have been recalling and sequencing the story of The Three Little Pigs. They used the storytelling logs to help put the events into the correct order.  Afterwards, we enjoyed painting our own pictures from the story.

As the weather is changing, please ensure your child has two or three changes of clothes in their backpack, along with a full set of waterproofs and waterproof coat to be kept in school at all times. We encourage children to be as independent as possible when putting these on and taking them off.  So we would be grateful if you could also support this by giving them opportunities to practise dressing and undressing at home. Thank you.

Week 4

We have been reading the story of The Three Little Pigs both inside and outside this week. The children loved building houses out of loose parts – a lot of team work going on! They enjoyed wearing the costumes to act out the story themselves too! Please see photos in the Gallery.

We also had our first toast café this week. The children practised spreading their own butter and toppings and cutting their toast in half. They also tried some courgette jam – the courgette was grown in our allotment. It was delicious!

Friday was Language day. The children started to learn to say hello and goodbye in Romanian and Polish. Please see Class Gallery for photos.

Weeks 2 & 3

In Robins this week we have been settling in still, getting use to playing and sharing toys with each other.

Painting and glueing has been fun this week! Robins have been painting their self-portraits, looking in the mirror and talking about the colour of their hair and eyes etc and looking at each other to see if they are the same. They then added some materials, wool for their hair and buttons for noses and mouths.

September 2025 Term 1

A warm welcome to all our new Robins and families and to our older Robins too. We hope you all had a lovely summer and are ready for a new term ahead!

This week we have been busy exploring both inside and outside and getting to know our new friends, teachers and routines.

This term we will be reading The Three Little Pigs. Our focus will be building houses and talking about what materials to use. We will be talking about families too! If possible, it would be nice if your child could send in a family photo for our family tree, so the children can have a look at and talk about their families with their friends.

Please check Robins Gallery as we will upload new photos weekly of what has been happening in our class.

Please read the newsletter as it informs you about what you need for your child. Any questions, please ask a member of the Robins team. Thank you!
