Wonder

This week, we have been settling into Year 6 and thinking about our first days in our new class. We read Wonder and explored how the characters felt when they faced new experiences, met new people and had to make important choices.

In English, we have been learning about the features of a recount. We looked at how recounts tell events in the order they happened and include details about who, where, when and what happened. We also practised using time connectives such as first, next, after that, later and finally to organise our writing.

We have been revisiting the simple past tense, using verbs such as walked, talked, arrived and felt to describe completed events. We also explored the past progressive tense, which helps us describe something that was happening at a particular moment in the past. For example: We were walking into the classroom when the bell rang.

We used these grammar skills to reflect on our own first days in Year 6. We thought about what we did, what we were doing, how we felt and what we noticed around us.

Reading Wonder has also encouraged us to think about kindness, friendship and how our actions can affect other people.

Welcome Back

What a fantastic first week back we have had!

This week, we have been getting to know each other, settling into our new routines and thinking about what it means to be part of our Year 6 classroom community. It has been wonderful to see everyone sharing ideas, catching up with our friends and getting ready for an exciting term ahead. 

We have spent time talking, working together and completing activities designed to help us learn more about one another. We have discovered new interests, shared our hopes for Year 6 and started building the positive relationships that will help make our classroom a happy and supportive place to learn. 

We know that Year 6 is an important year, and we are ready to take on new challenges, learn from our mistakes and celebrate our successes.

It has been a brilliant start to the year, and we are excited about everything that is still to come. We are looking forward to learning, laughing, growing and making lots of wonderful memories together.
