Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 Class Page

Welcome to Year 3! We are looking forward to an exciting year filled with learning, creativity, curiosity and fun. We can't wait to see the children grow in confidence and independence as they begin their Key Stage 2 journey.

This term, our topic is The Stone Age! We will travel back in time to discover how people lived, hunted, built homes and survived thousands of years ago.

Please take a look at our Topic Web to see what we will be learning.

PE days are Monday and Tuesday. Please ensure children come to school in their full PE kit on both days.

As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Week 5

Poetry

We have started a new poetry unit and have been learning two different autumn poems. We explored The Worst Part of October, looking closely at the features of a poem, including rhyme and repetition. We discussed how the poet uses these features to make the poem enjoyable and engaging to read aloud.

Forest School

We had lots of fun at Forest School this Thursday! The children enjoyed building dens and searching for bugs, exploring the outdoor environment and working together as a team.

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning how to use the column method for addition and subtraction. We have been practising setting out our calculations carefully and working through each step to find the correct answer.

🍂 Poetry Day 🍂

We celebrated Poetry Day by learning a lovely autumn poem. We were so impressed by the children’s expression and enthusiasm as they brought the poem to life! They are developing their confidence in reading aloud, learning to use expression and intonation to make their reading engaging and interesting.

✖️ Times Tables ✖️

We have started practising our times tables every day in school. We have begun with the 2s, before moving on to the 5s and 10s. Please continue to practise these at home to help build the children’s confidence and fluency.

The children have particularly enjoyed learning how to use and complete a multiplication grid and have been fantastic at spotting the patterns within the times tables!

Languages Day

Last Friday, we celebrated Languages Day with a fun and exciting morning of exploring different languages and ways of communicating. We started the day with a French breakfast while learning some simple French phrases.

The children then spent some time in Year 2, where they learnt some Makaton, and then had the opportunity to learn Spanish in Year 3. They also visited Year 1 to learn some Italian.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience a range of languages and develop their confidence in communicating with others.

What a brilliant start to Year 3!

The children have made a fantastic start to Year 3, coming in with such a positive attitude and settling into their new routines brilliantly. We are so proud of them!

English

We have been learning our model text, a diary entry from a Stone Age boy who wants to create a new invention. We have explored vocabulary including peculiar, disappointed, invention and persuade.

PE

We have started our dance unit and have been really impressed by the children's energy and enthusiasm.

Music

We have also started learning the recorder! The children have been practising how to hold it correctly and play some simple notes. We are looking forward to seeing how their skills develop over the coming weeks.

What a fantastic start, Foxes!
