Nursery
Welcome to Term 1!
Week 6
This week, we have had lots of fun exploring autumnal materials and creating faces. The children have used their creativity and imagination to produce some wonderful masterpieces!
We have also been developing our counting skills and learning to recognise numerals. The children enjoyed playing Musical Numbers in the playground. They danced along to the music and, when it stopped, a number was shown. They then had to identify the numeral and find it displayed around the playground.
This fun, active game helps children to become more confident in recognising numerals while developing their number recognition skills through play. Well done, everyone, for a fantastic week of exploring, creating and learning!
Week 5
This week, we have been continuing our Three Little Pigs theme by building a house made from sticks, just like last week when we built a brick house. The children worked really well as a team, carrying the sticks together and learning about the importance of staying safe when carrying large sticks.
Indoors, we focused on developing our hand-eye coordination by rescuing the bears from the water using spoons. The children had lots of fun practising their scooping skills!
As the weather is starting to change, please make sure your child comes to nursery dressed appropriately for the colder, wetter weather, with a warm coat, waterproofs and wellies.
The children have been practising putting on their waterproofs, wellies and coats independently, as well as learning how to zip up their coats. These skills can be quite tricky and take lots of practice, so we would really appreciate it if you could support your child and practise these skills at home with them.
This will help to develop their confidence and independence, which we work very hard to encourage in nursery. Thank you for your continued support!
Week 4
This week, the Robins have been exploring their favourite parts of the story The Three Little Pigs. The children have been busy building their own houses using loose parts outdoors, as well as dressing up and acting out the story together. They have really enjoyed using their imaginations and bringing the story to life!
Next week, we are hoping to build our very own stick house, so watch this space… 🏠🌿
Thursday was National Poetry Day, and we decided to learn a poem all about autumn. Please see the photos for the words. The poem is sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. The children had lots of fun learning the poem and enjoyed playing in the leaves while practising it together. 🍂
The Robins have also been learning Makaton Signs to help us communicate with each other using our hands. So far, we have been learning the signs for the fruits we have at snack time, as well as milk and water. The children have really enjoyed learning these new signs and are becoming very good at remembering and using them.
Week 3
Another wonderful week in Robins!
Our older Robins have really stepped up this week and are taking on extra responsibilities by helping our new Robins learn the routines of the day. They have been fantastic role models, helping with our days of the week song and supporting their friends during snack time.
This week, we finished our self-portraits. Please see the gallery for some lovely photos of the children’s creations.
We have also enjoyed our Funky Finger activities, using playdough to learn new ways to manipulate and mould it. These activities are great for developing our hand and finger control and helping to build those important muscles needed for future writing skills.
We also explored mark making in shaving foam. A few children were not too keen at first, but once they saw how much fun their friends were having, they soon joined in! The children enjoyed making different marks, patterns and shapes in the foam, exploring it with their fingers and developing their early writing skills.
On Friday, we celebrated a special Language day. The children painted flags to decorate our French café and learnt how to say "Hello" (bonjour) and "thank you" (merci) in French. We also enjoyed a special French-inspired breakfast, including delicious croissants!
What a busy and fun-filled week we have had! We are so proud of how well our older Robins are supporting and caring for our new friends.
Week 1 & 2
A very warm welcome back to all our returning children — it is lovely to see you again! We would also like to extend a special welcome to our new children and their families. We have had a lovely couple of weeks settling in, getting to know one another, becoming familiar with our classroom and learning the routines of the day.
We were very excited to discover a hedgehog taking shelter underneath one of our outdoor covers! After quietly observing it and talking about where hedgehogs might live, we decided to carefully take it across to our wooded area and Forest School, where we hoped it would be able to find its way back home.
The children have been busy exploring both indoors and outdoors and are already showing us how independent they can be. They are becoming very confident at putting on their wellies by themselves, although they still need a little help with their waterproofs. Developing independence is something we focus on throughout the year, and it is fantastic to see the children having a go for themselves and becoming more confident each day!
Our Talk 4 Write story this term is The Three Little Pigs. Through the story, we will be learning about families, building houses and exploring different types of materials. The children will also have lots of fun acting out the story, dressing up as the different characters and retelling the story in their own words.
We have also been busy creating our self-portraits. The children have been looking carefully in mirrors, talking about the colour of their hair and eyes and noticing the many ways we are all different and unique. Their wonderful portraits will soon be displayed on our wall for everyone to enjoy!
It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we are looking forward to all the learning, exploring and adventures still to come.
